SAT Score Choice Policy

The SAT total score is determined on a 400–1600 range. A key component of the testing technique is the candidate’s school’s Score Choice policy. “Highest Section” is the Score Choice policy at MIT; this is also known as “superscoring.” To further clarify, applicants can choose which SAT exams to submit to MIT. The application reader will take into account your highest section scores from each SAT test date you provide, out of all the scores that MIT receives.

Note: If a college decides to consider your greatest section score from all exam days, this is known as superscoring. For example, you received a math score of 690 and a reading and writing score of 720 on your first SAT. The second time around, the SAT results are 710 in reading and writing and 700 in math. If the college you’re applying to accepts your 720 reading and writing score from test 1 and your 700 math score from test 2, then your “superscore” (also known as “highest scores across sections”) will be determined.
 
Admission to the university requires candidates to achieve a minimum SAT MIT score. The minimum score range for admission to MIT is not specified.
